Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is an incredible experience. A true crowd-pleaser, you don’t even have to be a die-hard fan to enjoy. Since it’s open. It is truly an immersive experience, from dining, theming and attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, you are transported to a different world.

If you plan to visit Galaxy’s Edge in the future, you will want to have a plan before you go. Here are some tips to make sure you have a great visit!

Download the my Disney Experience App

You will want to have the My Disney Experience App downloaded and set up on your mobile device. This is how you will be able to score one of those coveted Boarding Groups for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Walt Disney World’s most popular attraction. You can also mobile order

Rise of the Resistance using a Virtual Queue. You do not need to join a virtual queue to gain access into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge but you will need one to ride Rise of the Resistance.

Request a boarding group before you arrive at the park.

In order to obtain a boarding group, you must first have a park pass reservation for that day for Hollywood Studios. You cannot obtain a boarding group if you hop to Hollywood Studios later in the day.

There are two boarding group times: 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. You can obtain a boarding group at 7 a.m. from your hotel room if you choose. If you are not successful at 7 a.m., you can try again at 1 p.m. while inside the park. In order to get a boarding group at 1 p.m., you must have been scanned into the park at some point earlier in the day.

Don’t rely on WiFi. The connection at Disney can be understandably spotty. Supporting that many guests is a lot to ask of one network, after all. So be sure to use your cellular network, if possible. It also helps to have the Time and Date website up and ready to go on another device in advance.

Get There Early!

You should plan to arrive at least an hour before park opening. Make sure you factor in your transportation time and time to get through healthy and safety screenings and bag checks. Chances are the park will start letting guests in early and you do not want to miss out on the shortest wait times possible. Once you snag your boarding group, check out Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Stay Close to Hollywood Studios!

If you want to be as close as possible to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there are several resorts that are close and super convenient.

Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin are within walking distance to Hollywood Studios. In fact, on our trip, we took an Uber to Swan and Dolphin and walked over in order to get there earlier.

Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach and Riviera are on the Disney Skyliner. These resorts are a cheaper option; however, sometimes the Skyliner isn’t running early enough for rope drop.

Make Reservations for Popular Experiences

There are several special experiences within Galaxy’s Edge. If you want to build your very own Droid or Lightsaber or visit Oga’s Cantina, you will want to make some reservations first.

Oga's Cantina

While you may be able to get in without a reservation, it won’t be a guarantee and you may have to wait in a long line. These experiences are extremely popular so if they are a “must-do” for you, make a reservation. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance.

Dining Options

Ronto Wrap
  • Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo – Quick Service dining. Mobile order to avoid long lines, especially during peak times.
  • Ronto Roasters – Sandwiches and drinks. You can mobile order here as well. Our favorite is the Ronto Wrap!
  • Oga’s Cantina – Extremely popular so you will want to snag that reservation 60 days in advance! Star Wars themed drinks and cocktails. Really cool environment.
  • Milk Stand – Blue and green milk. You can also mobile order here. Blue milk was our favorite.

Great Photo Opportunities!

We will wrap this up by talking about some of the great photo opportunities in Galaxy’s Edge. There are several great places to take your own pictures with all the fun props, The Millennium Falcon, Characters and more. But if you have purchased the Disney Photopass, there are some really cool “Magic Shots” available. Here are some of ours.
